I don't know if I should rate this mature or what xD But I just feel like I should be warning you guys. At some point, there is a scene where there is description of much chaos, and it involves a lot of blood. So if you don't like to see the word BLOOD or just imagine blood, then pass over the first part and skip to the one where you wake up.

I was just warning you guys, that's all. I'll shut up now and let you read. xD

In any case. Enjoy ! :D

Jack Frost X Reader "Dreams and Nightmares" Chap. 3

“The Nightmare”

It was cold. Really cold. You shut your eyes closed as your hands clutched tightly to your shoudlers, trying to keep yourself warm. The harsh northern wind blew right past you, your long, (h/c) locks whipping the cold air, sending shivers down your spine. You began feeling woozy, then your stomach ached. But then, the wind suddenly stopped raging against you, and the cold seemed to vanish completely, almost immediately replaced by a sensation of warmth that spread throughout your entire body.

“What the…!?”

Your eyes had opened by themselves, without you wanting them to, and you gasped in surprise as the scenery unfolded before your very eyes. All around you, an endless plain stretched to the horizon. No hills, no lakes, no rivers, nothing. It was all so mysterious, but the worst part of it was the sky. THAT was no normal sky, like the one you’d see every day. Oh no, it was far from that. Instead of being blue, it was… red. Like blood. A dark, velvet red. Dark gray clouds hid it away In small patches here and there. Everywhere you looked, the sky was that color. And it frightened you. You actually were scared.

You narrowed your eyes slightly. Further before you, there was the shadow of a man, simply standing in this scenery of desolation. You tried to see what he looked like, really, but he had no actual appearance. He only wore a black robe, his face covered by a hood. His back was crooked and he stood with a twisted cane, just as crooked as his back was. Your eyes widened as you cocked an eyebrow, unsure wether you should run to him and ask what was going on, or simply turn back and run. But before you could do anything, he lifted one thin, scrawny arm up into the air, pointing in your direction with one of his gnarled, old fingers. You froze, and your blood ran cold ; it was scaring you to death. But after a moment, you decided to look behind you… for it was what the man seemed to want you to do. And so your turned around.

“… what in bloody hell…!?” you said under your breath, eyes wide as fear crept into your heart and mind.

Everywhere. Everywhere you looked, puddles of blood. Dead bodies laid about in the prairie, as far as the eye could see. Bodies that were mutilated, that were beheaded. That missed a body part. With a slit throat and cut open stomach. An expression of fear, of pain on their face, some with eyes closed, some with eyes opened. Children, adults, elderly people. You didn’t understand. In shock, you turned back to the man in the black robe. He pointed behind you once again, as if he was telling you to look closer. And so you did. But you regretted it so badly.

Faces you knew, faces you know. They were all, every single one of them, faces that you had already seen. Your hand clutched onto your mouth to hold back a scream of terror. Your eyes began tearring up, you took a step back. Jamie. Pippa. Cupcake. Claude. Sophie. Some of your high-school friends. Your mother and your father. Their faces were all there, eyes turned to you and staring you with their lifeless gaze. It terrified you, and you froze.

But then a shadow covered the sky, everything whent black. Nothing could be seen, other than yourself. And there was Him. The man who had tried to take you away, some time before. He was there, a bit further before you, and looked at you with his frightening amber eyes. A wicked smile twisted his features, and his gaze pierced you like the razor-sharp blade of a sword. It was almost as if he could read in you, see in you the things you never told any living soul other than yourself. It was just like he could sense your worst fears.

“It’s your choice, _______.” He said in the silky smooth voice you knew him, then gestured behind him. “You can either join us…”

A sea of dark, sandy creatures, mares, to be exact, stirred behind the man. They seemed impatient about something.

“… or, you can stay with those you love, and watch as they slowly, painfully die right before your very eyes… without you being able to do anything about it.”

His wicked laugh echoed in your mind as the shadows disappeared, letting your eyes set upon the horrible vision of the plain covered in bloody corpses. You closed them shut, a scream of terror leaving your lips. You felt something pierce through your back and cross through your heart, looked down, and saw a black arrow, dark as those creatures that were with the man, that stuck out your abdomen. You fell to your knees, a single tear dripping from your eyes, and fell unconscious to the ground. The pain was unbearable.

And that’s when you woke up.

-*-*-*-*-*-

You woke up, a deathly scream rushing across your lips as you jumped onto your feet so quick you got woozy after a few seconds. The thick furry blanket that still clung to your body drooped down to the ground, and you took a few hesitating steps back, almost tripping over the furs. You felt as if you had been thrown into a furnace, as if fire caressed your skin with its burning and agonizing flame. Your hands found it fit to clutch onto your shoulders, and you forced your eyes shut, immobilizing yourself in the middle of the room in which you had awakened, the last time it happened.

“Okay, okay. Calm down,” you say to yourself. “It was just a dream… just a dream.”

But you could say it to youself over and over, it would never change the fact that it had seemed all too real to you. The blood red sky, the bodies in the plain, the man with his army of dark creatures, and the faces of those you knew. You were traumatized, and for a second you panicked.

“Jamie !”

Your eyes opened just as you yelled the boy’s name. You got up rapidly, turning to face the door, but just as you came to touch the doornob, it opened. You froze in your tracks as six different beings burst inside, and one little figure came rushing to you.

“________ ! Are you okay ?!”

You crouched down and held Jamie against you tightly, almost squashing him. You were so relieved to see him here, it confirmed that what you had just lived was but only a mere nightmare. A small tear came running down your face, your heart still drooped in fear, horror and worry. Your friend wrapped his arms around you and squeezed you back, as if he could sense you needed someone to comfort you.

“It was just a little scare… that’s all, Jamie,” you tried to assure him. “There’s nothing to worry about.”

“What ? Just a little scare ? If it was, then why’d you scream like a maniac, mate ? Y’a almost made me drop a perfectly fine basket of googies here !” said a voice.

“Now, now, calm down, Bunny ! Can’t you see, this poor girl’s been through a lot !” another one added.

What in the name of… you thought, but your thoughts were interrupted when you lifted your head. Your eyes widened to the size of saucers, and your jaw dropped in awe. There they were. The four characters that had ruled your childhood dreams. Santa Claus. The Sandman. The Easter Bunny. And the Tooth Fairy. But for some reason, you thought they were only but a mere illusion caused by the fever that had started to fire up your forehead.

“No way…” you whispered, your eyes shining brightly as you stared at all four of them.

“Oh, right.” Jamie said as he backed up slowly when you let go of him. “You haven’t met them yet. So I’ll introduce you to them !”

And so the boy ran towards the big man in the red suit. He was big, and intimidating, but he looked to be rather nice once you got to know him. Jamie said his name was North, and the man saluted you by saying ‘hello’, with a heavy russian accent dug into his deep voice. Next, your friend ran up to this adorable little man, all golden from the tip of his toes up to the top of his head. He said his name was Sandy, and you guessed they called him like that because he was the Sandman. He greeted you bu forming a little exclamation point out of sand over his head, and waving at you. You figured he probably couldn’t talk. Then Jamie whent up to the big bunny. He said his name is Bunnymund. You guessed he was the one who talked about those ‘googies’ or whatever they were, since he had the same heavy australian accent as the voice that spoke of those googies earlier. And finally, Jamie ran to the Tooth Fairy, which he introduced as Tooth.

“Everyone simply calls me Tooth. You might as well do the same !” she explained.

Your eyes ran over them once more. You couldn’t believe your eyes ! You managed a weak smile, your fever kicking in all of a sudden. Your eyelids felt heavy, and for a second, they fluttered tiredly. Jamie walked up to you.

“Are you okay, _____ ?” he said, pressing a hand against your forehead.

His eyes opened wider than saucers and a terribly worried expression painted itself on his childish features. By the look on their faces, you knew the others had noticed Jamie’s worry, and that they wanted to know what was going on.

“________, you’re burning ! Like real bad !”

Tooth flew swiftly next to you and almost slapped a hand onto your head, just after Jamie had taken his off. She muttered a soft ‘hold still’ when she felt you trying to move away, and so you stopped in your tracks. The fairy’s face turned suddenly so pale, and she looked seriously fearful.

“Oh my…” she said. “You’re fever’s gotten worse…”

You inclined your head slightly to the right, your eyes – although they seemed tired – shining in confusion.

“Huh…? I have a fever ?”

She nodded.

“And a pretty bad one, too. It just keeps coming back, over and over again.”

**** Meanwhile…****

An evil laugh echoed through the dark tunnels that slithered underneath the little town of Burgess and the forest surrounding it. Dark horses ran in them, all to gather in the center-most area of the underground network no one even knew existed. They all waited patiently as their master, the Nightmare King, paced around the black globe lit with all these little golden lights he hated so much.

A smile grew on his face. Through one of his best and most discrete nightmares, he heard and saw everything. He had been keeping an eye on you through the dark spy, and, as of now, none of the Guardians had even noticed it was roaming about the pole. Score one for Darkness. He saw your health deteriorate as the hours passed, and each time you had fallen asleep, he had taken the opportunity to slip a nightmare or two in your head. Your screams of fright were a delight to his ears, and though you couldn’t possibly know, your slow descent into the abyss of darkness had already begun.

“Go on, Guardians. Go ahead and try to help her. There is nothing you could possibly do that will cure her of it !”

The nightmares pawed the ground and neighed, creating a frightening harmony of tones and rythms that would send chills down the bravest man’s spine. The Nightmare King’s laugh resonated throughout the underground tunnels, making the dark creatures quiet down.

“Soon enough, you’ll see that it’s too late. My plan has already been set into motion, and nothing can stop it from unfolding now. NOTHING !”

Pitch litteraly screamed the last word. Then he laughed in the evil way we all know he has. And all the nightmares burst into their dark, twisted symphony of screams, making the cold night grow menacing. But, although everything seemed so dark and evil, there was the moon, whose beams shone bright and cut through the darkness to provide a reassuring light.
